Article 1 - Game Overview
RiscDisc™ is a competitive outdoor team sport played with official 7-inch silicone RiscDisc™ flying discs and a standardized outdoor scoring field. Two opposing teams consisting of one, two, or three players compete to score points by striking scoring poles, intercepting opposing discs, and striking opposing airborne discs. A standard match is best two-out-of-three games. A standard game is won by the first team to reach 21 points.
Article 2 - Equipment
Only officially approved RiscDisc™ silicone flying discs may be used. Each player begins a game with four discs of a single assigned color. Each player stands on the pad located opposite the scoring pole matching the color of the discs assigned to that player. No substitute flying object may be used in place of an official RiscDisc™.
Article 3 - Playing Field
The official RiscDisc™ field consists of one circular field measuring 30 feet in diameter, divided into eight equal field slices. Three adjacent slices on one side are assigned to one team, three adjacent slices on the opposite side are assigned to the opposing team, and the two remaining slices serve as neutral zones separating the teams. Six standing pads are positioned so that each pad just touches the outer perimeter of the circle. The three pads on each team side are grouped together along that team's side of the circle. The straight-line distance between adjacent standing pad positions shall be 11.48 feet, measured as chord distance between pad positions. Standing pads measure 16 inches by 24 inches.
Article 4 - Team Pad Assignments and Match Start
Before the first game, a coin toss shall be conducted between team captains. The captain winning the coin toss shall select which standing pad position will have the first throw and shall assign that captain's team members to their standing pad positions. The losing captain shall then assign that captain's players to the corresponding opposite pad positions. The losing captain does not choose the first throw position. Players must remain assigned to their designated pad positions for the duration of the match. The second game begins with the opposite team's captain selecting the first throw position for that game.
Article 5 - Player Positioning
At the beginning of every play, all players must be positioned on their assigned standing pads. Players may lean beyond the boundaries of the standing pad, but no player may place a foot on the ground outside their standing pad during an active play. If any player on a team violates this rule during a play, all points earned by that team during that play shall be forfeited.
Article 6 - Order of Play
The player assigned to the starting pad position makes the opening throw. After each turn, play proceeds to the player immediately to the left of the player who most recently completed a turn. A play officially begins when a player releases a RiscDisc™ toward a scoring target.
Article 7 - Disc Status
A RiscDisc™ remains in play until it contacts the ground, is legally caught, or leaves the playing field perimeter. Once a disc contacts the ground it immediately becomes dead and out of play. A legally caught disc immediately becomes dead and shall be tossed to the ground and removed from play.
Article 8 - Scoring
| Action | Points |
|---|---|
| Strike the scoring pole matching the color of the disc thrown | 3 |
| Strike the black center pole during the player's turn | 2 |
| Strike a scoring pole located on that player's team's side | 1 |
| Strike an opposing team's airborne disc before it contacts the ground, a scoring pole, or exits the field | 5 |
| Catch an opposing team's disc while remaining on the standing pad | 1 |
No points are awarded for catching a teammate's disc.
Article 9 - Multiple Scoring Events
Multiple scoring events may occur on a single throw. Valid scoring events are cumulative unless limited by the rules. If a disc strikes a scoring pole and is subsequently caught by an opposing player before contacting the ground, both scores are awarded. Both teams may score during the same play. Only the first scoring pole contacted by a disc counts; additional pole contacts are ignored. A disc that contacts the ground before striking a pole shall not score.
Article 10 - Out-of-Turn Throws
A player who throws out of turn immediately forfeits the thrown disc. No points may be awarded from an out-of-turn throw except points earned by legally striking an opposing team's airborne disc. The thrown disc shall then be removed from play.
Article 11 - Disc Replenishment
Players may not retrieve additional discs while any player on either team still possesses a playable disc. Only when all players on both teams have exhausted all playable discs may all players retrieve their original four-disc set. Play shall then continue in normal turn order. If a player runs out of discs before other players, that player must skip their turn until replenishment occurs.
Article 12 - Scoring Confirmation and Challenges
At the conclusion of every play, each team captain shall verbally announce the points earned by their team. If a scoring dispute exists, either team may issue a challenge. The player positioned closest to the disputed action shall determine the outcome. If an appointed judge or tournament official is present, the judge's decision is final.
Article 13 - Winning a Game
A game is won by the first team to reach 21 points. If both teams reach or exceed 21 points during the same play, the team with the higher score at the conclusion of that play is the winner.
Article 14 - Winning a Match
A standard RiscDisc™ match consists of a best-of-three-games series. The first team to win two games is the match winner.
